Pamela’s Posh Picks: What Have We Wrought… {Iron}

With my visit to Charleston still fresh in my mind, I thought it might be fun to do this week’s Posh Picks based on one of the most memorable things I saw there: Wrought Iron.
Charleston, Sweet Charleston

This past weekend I paid my first visit to Charleston, South Carolina, a true jewel of the South. My dear friend Tina and I attended Parents Weekend at the College of Charleston where her daughter, Olivia, attends the Honors College. When Tina’s husband Rich had to cancel at the last minute due to work obligations, I was more than happy to step in!

Last night I attended yet another affair showcasing amazing fashion, this time at the Opening Night Gala for Boston Fashion Week. The event was held under The Tent at Boston Fashion Week, located in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel courtyard. There’s nothing like an amazing tent to set the stage for a spectacular event, so this week’s Posh Picks are…
Dreamy Tents!

It’s been of Summer of Love in 2012, as I’ve just attended my third wedding of the season! It is always a privilege to witness the joy and love as two people start their lives together. Not only do I enjoy basking in the glow of happiness at a wedding, I adore all the details that go into making each event special.

I thought I’d wrap up this week of posts on the Brizo Fashion Week event by featuring some of my favorite looks from the Jason Wu Fashion Show showcasing his Spring 2013 collection.

“ Style comes from imagination and creativity and willingness to take risks.”
~Jason Wu
While our workshops and brand immersion seminars during Brizo Fashion Week were both inspiring and educational, they were also intense ~ in the best possible way of course! Lucky us, the Brizo team also built in plenty of opportunities to explore the fashion side of Fashion Week in NYC. You won’t believe the fun we had, I’m still reliving it myself!

Most other designers follow trends, Jason Wu creates them.
This sentiment was expressed at the post-runway show cocktail party with Jason Wu last Friday during Brizo Fashion Week ~ and I couldn’t agree more! I am so proud and fortunate to count myself among the “Blogger 19” for Fall 2012, what an incredible trip!

I’m having an amazing time here in New York as a guest of Brizo! There will definitely be lots to share over the next few weeks when I return. In the meantime, today is the Jason Wu Fashion Show and Cocktail Party!! While it is sure to be a highlight of the week, attending an event at Fashion Week also presents a dilemma: what to wear?? Luckily, I brought a suitcase (or two…) full of choices.

As most of you probably know by now, I am part of a small group of interior design professionals (the “Blogger 19”) who have been invited by Brizo, the faucet brand for the fashion forward, to attend its’ semi-annual Fashion Week event in New York City, September 5-8.
Pamela’s Posh Picks: End of Summer Cocktails
Aug 31 2012 · 0 comments · Posh Picks ·1
While this holiday weekend may signal the unofficial end of summer, there’s still plenty of time to celebrate with some of my favorite summer cocktails ~ which are this week’s Posh Picks!
My top pick is the Cosmopolitan:
My Dear Friend and Artist Kelley’s Perfected (after many trial batches) Cosmo
1 jigger of Cointreau
1 jigger of Chiller Cranberry juice cocktail
2 jiggers of Absolut Vodka
½ lime plus a slice
ice
~Chill cosmo glass, vodka and cocktail shaker in the freezer
~In the meantime, put 3-4 ice cubes in a ziploc bag and use a rolling pin to crack
~In the chilled shaker, place ice, Cointreau, cranberry juice and vodka
~Shake vigorously as you dance to great music to get in the mood!
~Squeeze the lime into your chilled glass
~Strain the contents of your shaker into the glass, garnish with the lime slice and enjoy!
The Watermelon Strawberry Martini is my next pick ~ so refreshing!
My Jazzy, Sassy, Belle Trois friend Tina uses a delicious recipe from her Best Dance pal Linda. Click here for a similar recipe.
My Fun and Fabulous sister Kate makes a knock out Margarita that gets any party started with dancing! You have to taste this to believe it, one is just not enough. 😉
Try this similar recipe from Tyler Florence: Ultimate Margarita
Of course not everyone at your holiday weekend gathering will be enjoying cocktails so I’ve also included two more non-alcoholic drinks in my Posh Picks this week…
How festive does this Summer Raspberry Lemonade look?
And of course, what would summer be without a little sparkle? This Rosemary Citrus Spritzer features fruit and herbs for a sweet yet grown-up flavor.
Find the recipe here.
This week’s petite oil painting is already looking ahead to Autumn when the cool air will shift our tastes to a more sophisticated libation: Martini with Olives
Cheers to you ~ remember to enjoy your cocktails responsibly over Labor Day weekend and always!
xo,
Pamela

Down to the Wire: Teenage Domain Update
Aug 28 2012 · 0 comments · My Designs ·0
Our Teenage Domain project is humming right along but the deadline for completion is fast approaching. I promised the family (and myself) that we would be finished by the first day of school ~ which is next week! As with any construction project, we’ve had our share of hiccups: tile quantities that were 1 box short, the pocket door that would not accommodate the light fixtures because of the molly bolts (are they really named after a girl?? ), juggling schedules due to summer vacations. With all that, we are now in the homestretch with just a few days of work remaining. I truly believe my clients’ (bless them) patience will be beautifully rewarded with a stunning new space for their son.
Without further ado, let’s take a peek at some of the current progress.
This is the focal wall in the bathroom ~ this tile is actually a mix of matte and polished finishes. In the light it is just lovely, creating the illusion of depth and movement.
Here is a close up shot of the tile. There are so many colors in this grey/blue palette, it really is glorious.
The floor is a grey porcelain tile in a generous 12″x 24″ size. The larger size actually visually expands this small space and creates interest.
This same tile is going to be used on the side walls of the shower. The inside of the shower, including the focal wall, will be visible through the glass shower door providing a pleasant vista for the young man who will be inhabiting this space. The overall look will be sophisticated and masculine.
In addition to all of the fabulous tile in the space, we are using a trio of Benjamin Moore paint colors in the bathroom. The vanity color is Benjamin Moore Stonington Gray:
The walls will be painted Benjamin Moore Wickham Gray:
I love adding a subtle color on the ceiling, here we will be going with a 50% color concentration of Benjamin Moore Woodlawn Blue:
Finishing off the space will be Benjamin Moore Super White trim.
I am so anxious to see everything come together, it won’t be long now!
Speaking of anxiously awaiting something, next week at this time I’ll be packing my bags for New York and the events of Brizo Fashion Week with Jason Wu ~ can’t wait!

Pamela’s Posh Picks: Glam Up Your Dorm Room!
Aug 24 2012 · 0 comments · Personal, Posh Picks ·0
As Labor Day and the unofficial end of Summer approaches, several of my friends have been making the trip to college campuses near and far to deliver their daughters (and sons) to their new home away from home for the next four years. Having been through this bittersweet transition time twice myself, I feel their trepidation and their excitement. I want them to know I’m here to lend an ear to listen or a shoulder to cry on. And of course the designer in me is here to lend a few design tips to take those dorm rooms from drab to fab! That’s why this week’s Posh Picks are all about setting up a comfortable and beautiful dorm room.
Let’s start with the focal point of the room: the bed.
I love this Suzani Duvet Cover in Warm from PBTeen.
The lively pattern and bright colors are sure to enliven any bedroom space–even a dorm room.
To add some contrast, this Dottie sheet set in Pink Magenta fits the bill.
One of my favorite tricks for adding pizazz to your bed is to use a second sheet set and mix and match the flat sheet and fitted sheet for even more versatility. In this case, I’d love to see a pop of bright yellow:
Banana Yellow sheet set on Amazon
A fun bedside lamp is a homey touch that adds a soft glow ~ save the task lighting for the desk area.
I adore this Ikat shade in Pool from PBTeen. The pattern coordinates with the Suzani comforter and the beaded ball fringe adds a wonderful and unexpected touch of bling!
The Mod Lamp Base from PBTeen is the perfect complement!
Of course there’s bound to be lots and lots of studying going on ~ you might as well have a great looking desk chair.
The Furlicious (love the name!) Airgo chair from PBTeen provides a “fabulously furry place to study”:
Just because I love you sweeties, here’s a mood board showing everything all together:
I added in the compass because no matter where you or your loved ones are, all roads lead home.
This week’s petite oil painting is one of my favorites and oh-so-appropriate for the theme, Empty Nest:
Where we love is home ~ home that our feet may leave, but not our hearts.

Visiting Nantucket
Aug 21 2012 · 0 comments · Personal, Travel ·0
Ah, Nantucket.
This geographically isolated (30 miles out at sea from Cape Cod) and culturally sophisticated (what international vacation destination isn’t?) island restores my soul each time I step upon her shores.
For 23 years I have blessed to visit Nantucket with my dearest girlfriends. When we are there, I believe the island rocks just a little bit more in the water from our laughter and ahem, our dancing!
Each trip, our cocktail mistress Tina creates a cocktail of the season for our enjoyment. This time it was Watermelon Strawberry Martinis.
Delicious and a perfect way to kick off the relaxation at our friend’s home.
This year during our stay we were fortunate to enjoy nearly perfect weather. The sky was cerulean blue and the water a beautiful reflection of it with a hint of phthalo (art speak for green). Whether you reach this charming island by yacht, ferry or plane and stay for one day or several, you must make time to explore. Here are some of my favorite sights from Main Street and beyond…
For us, a stop at Bartlett’s Farm is always a necessity. The amazing fresh corn, tomatoes and fleurs are all so beautiful ~ and tasty.
Their growing fields are like a paint palette.
Downtown offers art for all tastes. Among my favorites is Art Cabinet Nantucket ~ very avant garde and not to be missed.
In another gallery along Main Street, this piece was so charming. I love how it captures the innocence of childhood and the simplicity of a day at the beach on the island.
The little girl in this painting reminded my friend Sandy of my daughter Emily when she was a child. I have to say, I do agree!
For shopping, my favorite island boutique still remains Trillium. Just look at this table arrangement…
Even my cooking would taste good on this striking china!
Of course my mind is never far from my job, and thinking about color is such a large part of what I do. At Parchment, I spied this fun stationery line from Pantone. Unfortunately, my favorite, Tangerine Tango, was out of stock. Maybe next time…
This window had most inviting wedding shoes all in a row just waiting for a bride. They all seemed to be saying, “Pick me”!
With all of the window shopping and exploring, you are bound to get hungry. We were excited to dine at CRU, a new restaurant that is the talk of the island.
The food was delightful but the designer in me was even more captivated by the decor!
The outdoor furniture was spectacular. I love this modern wing chair:
and a sofa with this view is pretty nice…
Don’t you love the punch of color?
For me, the pièce de resistance is actually inside the restaurant. This incredible crystal embellished driftwood chandelier is the centerpiece of the main dining room.
I adore the combination of rough and more formal ~so captivating and chic! You never want to look like you are trying too hard…the key to understated elegance.
Mother Nature is a master of understated elegance…
Oh Nantucket, such a lush place, a little bit of heaven on earth…
“Turn your face to the sun and the shadows fall behind you.”

Have you seen the Luxe Interiors + Design magazine Summer 2012 issue?
Aug 20 2012 · 1 comment · Publication ·0
As you know, I am a big fan of Luxe Interiors + Design magazine. As I paged through the Summer issue, I was so excited to come upon this in the Gatherings section:
A lovely write-up and photos from Pamela Jaccarino’s presentation in May at the Boston Design Center! Do you recognize anyone, perhaps in the top right photo??
I apologize for the poor quality of the photo ~ I guess that just means you should go out and pick up your own copy of Luxe! As always, the Summer issue is full of beautiful designs and images.
Happy Monday!

Pamela

Pamela’s Posh Picks: Jason Wu for Brizo and an exciting announcement!
Aug 18 2012 · 0 comments · Design Events, My Paintings, Posh Picks ·0
This week’s Posh Picks are all about designer Jason Wu.
Not only is Jason Wu a phenomenal fashion designer, bursting on the scene as the designer behind First Lady Michelle Obama’s gown at the Inaugural Ball in 2009, he has also entered into the world of interiors with his exclusive Jason Wu for Brizo bath collection.
No where do these two worlds overlap more beautifully than at Brizo Fashion Week in New York City. Brizo Fashion Week is a multi day, invitation-only event where designers and bloggers are invited to participate in interactive sessions with the Brizo design team and product developers. Along with several other parties and activities, there’s also a trip to see the Jason Wu Spring 2013 collection at his show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week!! I am beyond thrilled to share that I have been invited to attend this event in September ~ three exciting days in New York City and meeting Jason Wu ~ pinch me now!
{Disclaimer: As a guest of the Brizo brand, my airfare and travel expenses will be comped}
I’ve got Jason Wu on my mind, so of course this week’s Posh Picks feature Jason Wu for Brizo 😉
The Jason Wu for Brizo collection features timeless style that is both fresh and innovative. The distinctive matte black finish exudes an air of luxury and elegance, making the pieces in this collection a perfect fit for a variety of design sensibilities.
My first pick is the Single Handle Lavatory faucet:
Simple and elegant, this faucet is not only beautiful, it’s also smart ~ as in SmartTouchPlus technology that allows for water activation with just a touch or even hands free.
The elegance continues with the Tissue Holder:
Jason Wu often talks about combining form and function when creating his designs for the home and no where is that more practically applied than in a simple tissue holder. I love not only the ease of use but also the touch of reflectiveness from the metal finish.
There are several other accessories in the collection, but my favorite has to be the Trash Can:
I love the distinctive shape and the softness of the curves. It reminds me of an inverted flowing skirt on a certain Jason Wu designed ball gown…
Last but not least, even this week’s petite oil painting is Jason Wu themed, take a peek ~
I can’t wait to see what’s in store from Jason Wu at Brizo Fashion Week, and of course sharing the excitement with you!
xo,
Pamela

Pamela’s Posh Picks: Red, White and Blue…Chandeliers!
Aug 03 2012 · 0 comments · Posh Picks ·0
Like so many Americans, this week I’ve been riveted to the television and social media poring over events and updates from the Summer Olympic Games in London. Team USA has been doing a wonderful job competing and showing outstanding sportsmanship. In honor of our athletes I thought today’s Posh Picks should revolve around the patriotic color palette of RED, WHITE and BLUE!
During Blogfest back in May, I had the opportunity to visit the then in-progress brand new Baccarat showroom in New York City. Baccarat is a 200 year old company known for it’s unrivaled imagination, meticulous craftsmanship and notable creativity as the world’s leading creator of luxury crystal. This week I’m sharing my favorite RED, WHITE, and BLUE Baccarat chandeliers (yes, chandeliers are an obsession of mine! Shhh, it’s a secret!).
First up, RED:
If you look closely you’ll see Baccarat’s signature RED crystal. Every Baccarat chandelier has one.
This pale pink and RED Flou Je Te Vois Flou Zenith chandelier is an evolved design with a whimsical twist.
How about this stunning WHITE shaded chandelier, the Ellipse?
It’s traditional yet perfectly brilliant in every light. I love how the NYC skyline backdrop enhances the overall look.
Here’s a closer look at some of the details:
And yes, Baccarat does create a deep, rich royal cobalt BLUE crystal.
Called the Zenith Midnight chandelier, isn’t it grand?
I love the lampshades in denim, tres modern!
The day we visited the showroom, I just happened to be wearing a USA-blue dress.
I’m sorry to say, I think my lanyard and ID badge may be the closest I’ll get to having an Olympic medal! In the meantime, you can’t deny the brilliance of these amazing crystal Baccarat chandeliers ~ or our Olympians!
Finally, this week’s petite oil painting is actually a larger mixed-media work of mine. I couldn’t resist showing it though as it fits the Red, White and Blue theme:
Better still, this print is available for sale at AllPosters.com!
Hurray for RED, WHITE, and BLUE…and go Team USA!
xo,
Pamela
