Valentines from the Heart

Feb 08 2013 · 0 comments · Holiday, Personal ·0

I have such fond childhood memories of Valentine’s Day.  When I was a little girl, my sisters and I would always make handmade Valentines.  Our mother explained that handmade were most special because you created them. Each year, my Mom would cover a large cardboard box with red paper and embellish it with doilies, pink hearts and cupids.  The finishing touch was a mail slot cut in the top of the box.  All five of us would proudly carry our mailboxes to school and anxiously await the class Valentine party when we could open all of the secret Valentines left in our mailboxes.

Each year when February 1st comes around I can’t resist taking out all my materials for handmade Valentines. Last year, my dear friend Danielle organized a Valentine card making party at Paper Source (a most FAB place for all your paper and ink supplies).  We had so much fun, we did it again this year!

Come take a peek at our evening outing at the Paper Source Store in Brookline…

Our places were ready and waiting for us when we arrived:

The  Xacto knife on the left looked a little bit scary to me…

The entire table was filled with our supplies & tools:There were a total of seven of us for this class.

Here are the  samples of the cards we created:

Of course I wanted to veer off these designs but I tried not to disrupt the class 😉

We all brought treats, most of which involved sugar of some kind:

Sweets for the sweet!

This was a cute card, Love and Hugs…(get it?)

I’m not sure who I would send this to though ~ if I received a Valentine with a hog I think I would be insulted…maybe that’s just me??

This is my favorite design:A jar of hearts, take just one!

I Love love love the embossing technique we used on this card ~pure magic!

If you don’t know how to do this, you MUST learn!  So easy with such high impact!  First, lay down a stamp coated with embossing ink, then sprinkle embossing powder.   Shake off excess and then heat with a heat tool.  The powder becomes raised and it looks like it was printed… so FINE!

Danielle showing us her card, she is a pro!

Jane is demonstrating the embossing method, doesn’t she have lovely hands?

My Dear Valentines with our cards: Danielle, Moi, and my sweet Gina: Gina and I have been making cards together for over 10 years~of course I have saved every single one.  I so treasure all of the handmade Valentines I receive!

A lovely evening was had by all.  The best part:  the fun has just begun because our Valentines haven’t even been received yet!
