Philadelphia Flower Show, Part 2

Mar 05 2015 · 0 comments · Flowers and Gardening, Travel ·0

{Read about Part 1 of my visit to the Philadelphia Flower Show here}

Continuing on with our visit to the 2015 Philadelphia Flower Show, I adored this next category.   The challenge was to create a piece of jewelry from organic materials (Things found in your yard? Not in my backyard!).

My friend Sarah Boynton, representing the Hingham Garden Club, made this piece…it was magnificent!

IMG_7636From now on I am not going to be dreaming about diamonds and rubies…I am just going outside to pick berries and make something!  All joking aside, these are the base materials of the gorg necklace.IMG_7646

More incredible floral jewelry, amazing craftsmanship!

Can you believe that artisans make jewelry using materials such as these…IMG_7648

If I were a jewelry manufacturer I would produce this cuff bracelet in a minute!

Another category of the show was Collage with Plant Materials. These entries were created by high school students. These pieces reminded me of artwork that my children made using materials from the garden when they studied art with my friend and teacher extraordinaire.  Oh so long ago…

Look at the petals that are combined to make this portrait, wow!

Audrey Hepburn was a popular subject.  My daughter Em loved this piece because if you look closely you can see the outline of the mini leaves used to make Audrey’s hair…

Of course we took the time to stroll through the Marketplace where we came upon an exhibit, The Art of the Heirloom.  Artists were invited to create art for a contest for a seed company and the winning entries had their artwork in placed on seed packets. This year the Hudson Valley Seed Library displayed both the original art work and the seed packet. This was perhaps my favorite part of the show and here are two of my favorite entries…

As we strolled to the exit, we purchased pussy willows and roses to compose arrangements of our own at my daughter’s home.

This was such an inspiring visit ~ so many beautiful blooms and displays!  I can certainly see why The Philadelphia Flower Show is known as the most artistic flower show out there ~  and this  was certainly the best Christmas present ever, thanks Em!  xoxo M

Hope you’ve enjoyed this “Spring Break” visit to #TheFlowerShow.  Only 16 more days until Spring arrives!

xo,

Pamela

    I believe my designs should be a reflection of the people who live in the home. I also consider the style and integrity of the house. It is my goal to expose my clients to the latest trends and materials so that they have all the choices to make the best decisions for the project.
