A Blissful Maine Vacation: Boats & Art

Aug 21 2013 · 2 comments · Artists, Design Elements, Travel ·1

Ahhhh, how I wish my vacation had never come to an end! It was wonderful in every way~ my traveling companion planned the perfect trip to Maine that combined both of our passions: boats and art complemented by beautiful landscapes.

We attended the Annual Boat and Home Show in Rockland, Maine.  Here are a just a few of the stand out boats:

Don’t you just love a boat with an American flag?

Love this quote, so fitting…

“Being on a boat that’s moving through the water, it’s so clear. Everything falls into place in terms of what’s important.”

~James Taylor

We also saw plenty of art.  There was even a painting workshop at the Marshall Lighthouse.   What a day~ sunshine and shadows!

I was really hoping to visit the Dowling Walsh Gallery, unfortunately it was closed but I did take this photo of  a painting through the window.  IMG_3238

Oh well, just an excuse to go back!

A sweet garden from our travels…

We had the pleasure of visiting a friend who knows Connie Hayes, a very talented Maine artist. Ms. Hayes wrote a book that is currently out of print and has been on my wish list forever:

Painting Maine Borrowed Views Connie Hayes

This is a book of her paintings, some interiors, painted on location at homes where she stayed for about one week to paint. Upon completion of her visit, she left with her arms full of her work and gifted a painting to the homeowner as a thank you. In this friend’s home we were visiting, I had the extreme surprise to see several Connie Hayes paintings in person ~ and to be given permission to photograph them! What a gift! Take a peek and note her colors and her warm light.

“I like to have optical perception anchor my paintings to the world around me. In the translation of that perception my work rides an abstract edge. I find plenty of opportunity for astonishing moments simply from keeping my eyes open.”

~Connie Hayes

The Harbor views beckoned everywhere we turned…

One shop in Camden had these wonderful one-of-a-kind-clocks.   I just fell in love with the creativity, what do you think?
