Fearless Color: A Living Room Refresh

Sep 09 2015 · 1 comment · My Designs ·0

This is a story about a woman with a colorful personality and a zest for life.  I met her socially and was immediately smitten with her big smile and her vibrant spirit.  She has undeniable charisma and I was just drawn to her. When she called and asked me to work with her on her home I was elated!

As I arrived for the first consultation and tour, I was met by a white picket fence covered with climbing red roses. The house is a traditional (renovated) white clapboard farmhouse near the center of town. The grounds were designed with flowering trees and a perennial border garden. I could hardly wait to enter this enchanted cottage…

My initial impression was that this home definitely reflected my client. It was comfortable and inviting and full of possibilities.  To date, we have completed three spaces in the home and today I am going to share the Living Room with you. Proceed with caution if you don’t adore creativity and color!

The Living Room  is overflowing with warmth, charm, and of course, color…

We did face some challenges with the furniture arrangement as there are 2 doorways and 2 walls with windows in this cozy space, but I think we worked it out quite well…

IMG_9072 I just love seating so close that “secrets” can be shared!

My client downsized when she moved into this home and was brave enough to mix antique pieces with “jazzy” pieces.  I love the contrast ~ leopard print with Asian inspired lamps and an ornate traditional mirror ~ amazing!

She used two different end tables which provide interest at every turn…

Love the details!

There is a certain patina in a room like this that comes with the layering of interesting accessories such as lamps, books, and china…

I was thrilled that my client took colorful risks in this space ~ I love the chartreuse wall color and the recovered magenta loveseats.  Can you believe they started out beige?  We removed the dated skirt and added this trim for wow factor…IMG_7012

One-of –a-kind, or should I say two-of-kind, lamps create impact on this chest.

And what is a design without the decorative pillows that add texture, fun, and frills?

I loved this project inside and out…

It was such a pleasure to work with this client and help her translate her colorful personality into her interiors.  Stay tuned, I’ll be sharing her Family Room next!

“I wonder if any element of interior design is more personal than color?
Nothing can more quickly reveal aspect of personality and character
than the choice,
or absence, of color.”

I believe my designs should be a reflection of the people who live in the home. I also consider the style and integrity of the house. It is my goal to expose my clients to the latest trends and materials so that they have all the choices to make the best decisions for the project.
